FunkyE9th Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005 Anybody use a looping pedal? Do you use it in band situation? If so, how do you set it up so that the drummer is in sync with you. I'm thinking of using it in band, but I'm afraid of syncing issues.I'm looking into Digitech's JamMan Looper/Phraser Sampler. I think it might be good for practicing and recording those sudden burst of ideas in the middle of the night. It has a mic input also, so it might work for recording band practices.-FunkyE9th
pesocaster Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005 no.... but I've been thinking about a Boomerang pedal for years... tried it out a couple times... way cool!!!! as far as syncing with the rest of the band.... jsut rehearse with it... I know a lot of groups that play to backing tracks.... and have the drummer trigger the loops...
Monacosis Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005 A boomerang has been a part of my set-up for a long time. It takes a lot of practice to create good musical loops (not just the syncing part, which is hard enough, but knowing what kinds of sounds layer well underneath your live playing). It is a live instrument and you create loops on the fly, so there is a huge potential for a trainwreck!I also use a Loop Station for stored loops, but I am really digging what i read about the new JamMan. mike
JJ Paul Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005 It takes a drummer with cojones AND sense of music to sync to a loop. Gets hairy if the loop ain't too rythmic and still YOU need to lay it down straight...you might just lag at a point and then rush it and at the end it loops fine. But it will sound odd where the tempo accellerated or slowed down. Still - it's a gas, and a great way to try out those 20 minute solos !!! I've had most of the loopeys out there: Echoplex, Jamman, Boomerang. Still would like to get my mitts on the new Digitech (6 friggin' HOURS!!) or on the new version of the Electrix Repeater if/when they bring it back to the market. Bye for now nownownownownownownownownownownown JJ
FunkyE9th Posted August 30, 2005 Author Posted August 30, 2005 I might go check out JamMan after work tonight. -FunkyE9th
KorinaHound Posted August 31, 2005 Posted August 31, 2005 'Rangs are cool, but you have to be sure it's in the drummer's monitor AND he's gotta be willing to follow the loop. New Digitech looks very interesting. Hadn't heard that there was a chance we'd see another Electrix Repeater. I like the 'Rang more for practice than live band situation. KorinaHound
