bubs_42 Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 Whats the Output of the Bridge pickup? I have two Slammers one is just over 10K and the other is just over 16K??? The 16K matches the Wiring Diagram but the other is standard 3 wire.

The 16K matches the Wiring Diagram but the other is standard 3 wire. I think it warried regarding to which year your SS was made. I had an early SS1 with a slammer in the 9-10K range. My 1989 SSII has a Slammer that has an output around 16,64K, and I am pretty sure the later SS1's I've tried had hotter pups too.Edit; Do try both and let us know which one sounds best. I am curious about the 10K slammers, would like to try one.

I'm going to go with the 10K one firsts, I think it will work better witht he lower output Singles.Having the itch to put one in the bride and the other in a neck of a Sunburst....Just need another Sunburst..LOL

bubs_42 Posted January 9, 2011 Author Posted January 9, 2011 Ok, well the one that measures over 16K sounds tone like a Tone Zone. Big Old Bottom End, Round Top End and strong mids. Sounds like a wah pedal is on. Good Harmonics, and goes great with the Singles. The Singles BTW are Stellar I love those pickups. I have the guitar completely assembled and setup. I was so happy to get the guitar and when it showed up with really clean frets and a good truss rod I knew it was going to be OK. Sounds Great, Plays Great, but the one thing that I don't like about Dimarzio Pickups is that they sound like they need "Opened" up. Not alot of presence but when you crank the amp they sure do sound good. Very Chuncky and Very Full. I did not try the other pup out in the SS but I'm going to do a pup swap in the 77 Sunburst in the bridge position. I have a few I want to try just to give it a little more punch. If I get this gig I tried out for it just calls for a little hotter pickup. I'll let you all know how it goes.
