I broke a pot shaft on my Japanese P bass. The value of both the vol and tone pots was 250k. Local store only had 500k in stock, so I decided to replace both.

To me, the bass is now louder, and seems to have a bit more clarity. Is that possible, or am I hallucinating?

Generally, you get more high mids at the pickups resonant peak, and a touch more output.

Thanks gents... This unintentional mod has taken the bass from sounding a little bit muffled, to sounding a slight bit more aggressive, and louder, than my US '62 reissue.

May have to do the same to the US and see what happens.
