Boss DD-3 *Update* Fixed!

Question

Seems to be making some weird noises. Do these have problems a lot? Do they start to get distorted

when they start to die? I had a parallel EFX loop and thought that was making it sound bad but

then I modded the EFX loop to serial and it's still doing it. I ran a 10" mogami cable in the loop with no

EFX and there was no problem. Tubes all seem in good shape. They are all NOS Amperex, Tungsram, Tungsol (the original) and Siemens. The amp is a Mesa DC-10. Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Interesting. I've been using DD-3s for two decades and never had problem one. Could be that "its time has come." Unless you're really rough on your gear, I'd be willing to bet it's something simple and easily repairable.

Send it to Analog Mike (www.analogman.com). While you're having it repaired, have him do the High Cut Switch Mod. It's only $55 and really warms up the pedal.

Thanks for the reply. The repeats sound distorted and garbled like the input is being overdriven. I did the

EFX loop mod thinking this would solve the problem. I'm beginning to think there isn't anything wrong with

pedal and that maybe the signal is just too hot for it.

The same thing happens using the pedal with batteries. So I was assuming the incoming voltage/amperage

was fine if the pedal had the same symptoms on battery power.

Pedal died today. It won't power up unless I hold the footswitch down and even with the LED lit there's no delay coming out of it except once after a bunch of tries and even then the delays are distorted and garbled. The dely sound is there but there is so much noise with it, it is unusuable.

Decided to touch up the solder joints. Some didn't look so good. Plugged it in and it works good as new!

I didn't have any confidence it would work but it did. Might be selling a DD-6 soon.
