Hi, I have a Special and was wondering how to tell what year it was made. The serial number is 1-40xx. Good condition with some checking throughout and a 1 1/2" long chip of finish on the lower e string side of bridge that at it's widest is maybe 3/16" Non original case. Seems all original. Any Idea what the value might be as well?

1981. Value is probably more than tree fitty but less than 1K. Photos help a lot. You can always scope out eBay, do a 'advanced search' and find out how much similar USA Hamers actually have sold for recently. Asking prices on eBay or elsewhere are absolutely worthless for market research unless the item actually sells.

I sold a really roughed-up '81 about 6 months ago for $600, and it took about 5 minutes to disappear, but it was beat in that perfect way if you know what I mean. It also was an absolute monster player and had been X2N-equipped for maximum Def'ness.

Too bad it had a tiny little neck......

I'd guess 6-7-8 hundo depending on the finer details, maybe more if the chip you described isn't real heinous and it has "the look" to whomever has the cash on hand and is Jones'in for an early Special. What color we talkin'?

It's a cherry sunburst with a nicely flamed top. Gotta get some batteries in my camera and get a nice couple of glamor shots of it.
