Saw Washington State's premier band, the Posies, at a small club here in DC last night - FANTASTIC SHOW!

Things did get a bit loud (even for me!), but these guys are way better than I remember them being from 10+ years ago. I don't think there are two frontmen who blend vocal parts/harmonies and guitar parts as smoothly and tightly as Jon Auer and Ken Stringfellow, and they back it up with a very powerful rhythm section (Da'rius and Matt). They put on a heckuva show too - even have a few "EL" moves down. If you get the chance to check out this band, DO IT.

We got to go to an acoustic in-store thing right before dinner, which was also very cool - really intimate setting w/acoustics. Later on, the wonderful Ariana was wearing a hot-pink HFC t-shirt, and Jon made a Rick Nielsen connection while we were all chatting at the merch booth before they went on (Nielsen & Zander were in the studio during their "Amazing Disgrace" sessions and stepped in to guest on "Hate Song"). I'm pretty sure Elduave sold him an HFC shirt too...

This morning was a bit tough getting off to work, but the music, food, drink and company were well worth it!

It was big fun. Too bad Siobahn didn't make it. I'll try to post some pics. Pop-type people, The Posies are great! Check 'em out if you haven't.

Dave & Chris -- I know you guys have good taste in tunes. However, I had "Dear 23" when it was released, and it did nothing for me. I never gave them a second thought. So exactly what did I miss?

Dear 23 was a bit "light" for me. I felt that Frosting On The Beater, Amazing Disgrace and Success (especially) are the bomb. Sounds like you got to hear them before they hit their stride. Check out any of those 3.

I agree. I got into them on "Frosting", so "Dear 23" had already come and gone. It was the album that everyone seemed to love, but I could never get into it and frankly, can't tell you one tune on the album (I assume that there's possibly a song entitled "Dear 23" or some derivation of that on there, but have no clue).

When "Amazing Disgrace" came out, that was about all I listened to for a year. I still love that album and to me, it's their best, although "Frosting" has some great stuff on it. Between those two albums, I think that Stringfellow/Auer put down a large percentage of the best 20-30 power pop tunes of all time.
