Azola BugBass - Sold

And now for something a little different...

Azola BugBass; I believe is a version 1 model.

Made locally (San Diego) by Steve Azola; sadly, no longer making basses due to personal reasons.

Piezo pickup on the bridge; I believe the 'electronics' are a simple potentiometer.

It's a nice instrument if you have a use for it. I currently do not.

More detail (they were asking at TalkBass):

There were several models of Azola electric uprights; the BugBass was the most basic (no pun intended).

The scale length is 41-1/4" (just measured), about the same as a 3/4 upright.

The strings, per the prior owner are Corelli 370T Solo Gage. These are regular upright bass strings, fairly thin and easy to work.

Ash body, maple neck, padauk (I think) fingerboard. There are small pearl side markers on the neck (1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 12), and pearl markers on the fingerboard just next to the D string (towards the G) at the 12, 13, 15, 17, 19 and 24 positions.

Tuners are bass guitar style, black; I don't see a brand name.

There's a fixture on the back to hold a steel tube ending with a crutch tip; this brings the bass up to playing height.

Finally, you can see, on the upper bout, a tubular assembly that can be positioned to act as an upper bout on an acoustic bass (so you don't end up close dancing with it all night).

$1500 plus shipping.
