  1. The neck shape on the EVH is awful Cali fills your hand perfectly The build quality on the EVH leaves something to be desired too I was going to buy a USA EVH but was so disappointed in the build I bought a MIJ instead. Sounded like crap too My Cali was a whole different kettle of fish Played great, sounded great, don't know why I sold it, I just know I can't afford another one.
  2. I'm in Bought a Fender Japan Foto Flame strat just after the new year And have a EBMM EVH sig model arriving next week
  3. I came home from school for the summer and my younger brother had the album. I remember talking to my brother (killerteddybear) on the phone, before I'd listened to it. Me " you ever listen to this Van Halen album" KTB "yea it's ok, the guitar player seems pretty good" As spoken from a true bass player. Later that day I'm phoning my buddy, who IMHO is still the best guitar player I've ever heard, going WTF is this guy doing. This is the days before MTV. The first VH concert I went to was full of guitar players and their bored girlfriends. Next day we were all at the music shops tapping Up to then we were listening to Popcorn by Hot Chocolate. Now that was playing.
  4. Love VH I have all the CD's, most all of the Sammy and Dave solo stuff too. Loaning my buddy the VH3 CD He says, "I'll get this back to you Monday" Me, "don't bother, keep it" I remember reading an interview with Gary Cherone before the CD came out in which he said that it was all Eddie. It was like an Eddie solo album. Right away I thought, Ok, he doesn't want to be blamed for it. Then I heard the CD.
  5. I hope its not that bad. If we ever see one I kinda expect it will be, remember VH3.
  6. Don't know about on a nitro finish but what harm could Pledge do to a bullet proof Poly finish. I've used it for years and never had a problem with clouding. (Even on my Les Paul) My mother has used it forever on her antique dining room table and it still shines. Feels great on fretboards too, almost like Finger Ease. The silicone could possibly cause problems if you went to do a re-finish.
  7. My D3R Larrivee is my never sell, only guitar on the desert island guitar. Better try them first cause mine has a smallish neck
  8. What still baffles me is that it was in his store and on the net for over a year and nobody else snagged it. I still can't believe that a store owner wouldn't check into the origins of a piece that he has in stock. It only takes a couple minutes on the net. The neck isn't a perfect half circle like a Gibson, it has a very, slight V shape to it. Kinda sloppy U, it's hard to describe. 3 days later I'm still stoked.
  9. Yes the year is 96 Played it at practice tonight. I'm lovin the big neck. Has great tone too.
  10. I spotted this bad boy in a little shop about an hour and a half from home about a year ago. Been checking up on it on the net every once and a while. Dropped by a couple weeks ago and checked it out in person again. I've been obsessed ever since. Finally had enough money so I went in today and bought it. I'm not really a fan of Dean guitar designs, I don't go for the metal shapes and can't stand the Hardtails but I love Cadillacs. I think I've loved them since I first saw a pic of Elliot Easton playing one. I've had a Korean and a Czech before. This ones a USA I'm a Peavey Wolfgangaholic so the HUGE neck is a real change, but it plays so comfortably and sounds amazing. Pups have been changed to Dimarzio PAFs. I want to put gold hardware on it. Did I mention the neck is ENORMOUS. It's so big it has it's own zip code. I've played Les Pauls with big necks and always hated them but this one fits my tiny dick beaters perfect. Balances perfect. Ebony board no fretwear, even the back has a nice grain to it. Not much to add cause it's so clean. Emerald green flame top looks much better than in the picture Not a mark on it, could be sold for new. Oh and the best part. When I first played it a year ago the dealer said he didn't know where it was manufactured but it was high quality so he figured Korea or Japan. I had my suspicions of its origin and checked into it myself and found out it's a USA model. I payed just slightly over HFC approved price. Some quickie pics here, not the best lighting in the bedroom.
  11. Killerteddybear and I lived Rush: All the Worlds a Stage when we were kids. I think we played every note on that album. We were playing in a band that played Oldies and Country but we lived for Rush. 2112 was my favorite. Never did play it out but we would play a gig and then usually go to a party at somebodies house and then set up again and play the stuff we really liked, and being in Canada, Rush and April Wine were at the top of the list. I lost interest in them with Farewell to Kings. I think KTB still has everything they've ever done
  12. Maple, but it's got to be unfinished. Then rosewood but the ebony board on my Les Paul has to be the fastest board I've ever played
  13. I don't care how masterful the guy is installing the binding is. $550.00 for a pair of F holes is ridiculous. I make a decent wage, and with benefits ect it comes out around $60.00 an hour. How much does a factory worker make, maybe $20.00 per hour. With benefits maybe $35.00. I realize that there is over head involved so even at double that to $70.00 and hour. Is he taking just under 8 hours to do the binding. If it takes him more than a hallf hour he's down the road. Oh yea add the $2.00 for the material. That is a crazy upcharge. But then again I can't see a 250.00 to $500.00 upcharge for a flamed top when the material cost is only about $25.00 a board foot and you need 1 board foot. My rant is now over.
  14. I think I paid about $600-700 for my wife's engagement ring. That leaves me to buy Mexican Fenders Of coarse that was in the early 70's. It appraised at over $5,000.00 about 10 years ago so can I get that custom order now.
  15. Ok the breakdown 1 Hamer Bass 2 Peavey Wolfgangs 2 Gibsons, 73 LP, Reverse V 1 G&L Legacy (for Sale) 1 Larrivee Acoustic I had 12 Hamers at one time but thinned the herd and the Hamers didn't make the cut....... the only one I really regret selling was my Monaco Elite. I posted it with the rest at what I thought was a high price and it was snapped up instantly. My grail guitar is the Peavey Wolfgang, the rest are a revolving door My name is Ron and I'm a USA guitar snob
  16. [quote Roscoe Beck---he's even had a Fender signature bass, for Chrissakes I've always felt that if you've had a signature instrument you shouldn't qualify.
  17. We always do the "underrated" guitar players but who is a great bass player we never hear people rave about. I'll start Graham Maby of the Joe Jackson Band Tone, Chops, great on Electric and Stand Up just listen to the bass on Steppin Out, or any of the first 2 JJ albums (which will both be going to the island with me)
  18. That guitar looked like a mandolin on him
  19. I've always liked Rod Stewarts speaking voice. Always sounded like he was inviting you out for a beer.
  20. Born to Run............Bruce Ziggy Stardust........Bowie Back in Black..........AC/DC Sticky Fingers.........Stones Not a clunker tune on any of those albums
