Serial # question

Back in the 90's it was easy to understand the serial number system because if it started with a 9 it would have been a 89, right? But now we have 90's and 2000's under our belt so if the first number is a 6, how do you know if it is a 86, 96 or 2006? Same for a 1. Could be a 91, 2001, 2011. I looked at the main page explination but drew a blank.

An 86 would be an ink stamp, so there wouldnt be any confusion. A 77 and 87 are easy (also inked) because a 77 would only have nos. 7 0001-7 0096. An 87 would be 717846 or similar.

Starting with the bolt neck guitars in 87, Hamer started using numbers stamped (impressed) into the wood. A 1990 would be a number like 020802 whereas a 2000 would be 050263. Not sure off the top of my head where the current numbers are but a 2010 would be more like 055253.

Very well, Thank you. So I think I've got it. The 90's were in the 20k range and the 2000's were in the 5k range and the 2010's are in the 5.5 k range.

Thanks,

I think you meant...

The 90's were in the 20k range and the 2000's were in the 50k range and the 2010's are in the 55k range.
