Bought a New Gibson Flood last year and noticed a very nice candy smell on the guitar and in the case. It's still there, but I like it. So this Dark Lady I got for my 50th has the same smell but not as pronounced. I've seen the questions posted about removing odors like smoke and cat piss so I thought I'd ask if anyone knows what makes this candy smell and maybe how to add it?

I could be wrong, but I think that is the smell of fresh nitro, and as such, will eventually go away, sorry to say.

I've noticed this strong scent in the newer Gibson cases over the last few years. I went as far as asking the sales guy at a GC. I'm thinking it's in the glue, or ? that they use in these cases. He seemed to have the same conclusion. Usually with the white interior. I kind of don't like it. It's not nasty, just weird like sweet, or cotton candy like, I really can't put my finger on it. I know some case manufacturers were getting ribbed for using nasty smelling adhesives, etc. Gibson may be adding this scent to avoid this occurrence? Maybe someone else will chime in with a more definitive answer. It is very noticeable though. I'm curious myself of this.

You got it, Hamer Dave. It's sweet and kind of like cotton candy. I figured it was just the adhesive since the case was new. But when I got this Hamer Studio a few weeks ago I smelled it then too. Hamer case from '05 - 6 and black interior. I got a couple of the Joe Bonnamonamassa Epis and that case stunk really bad of varnish and my son's classical guitar case smelled of really bad cheese, a real shame as normally when you open an acoustic guitar case that fresh wood smell is all you should get. So I'm going to reread the other thread and see how to remove the bad cheese smell and hopefully the beautiful wood smell will permeate. The epi's are long gone and I'm going to leave the sweet ones alone, my boy likes them.
