Inserts for diablo pickup mounting

Question

Recently I replaced the pickups in my diablo with Suhr Aldrich's. The inserts (bushings) the pickups screw into are stripped. Can these be replaced and if so where can I get replacements?

Thanks,

If he doesn't respond, you might try PM'ing Murkat. He did the single pickup route in my Mirage II and I'm not sure what he used for the threaded inserts, but they look better than the ones I found on my own.

Also, are all the inserts stripped or just some? Because it seems unlikely they would all strip out. I assume you're using the original screws?

Are they threaded into bushings? aren't most direct mount pickups just screwed directly into the wood?

Hamers use threaded inserts. Really, everyone should (IMO).

well.. all be darned. Now if only more companies would use threaded inserts for their control cavity covers, like Carvin does.

Does anyone know where to get replacement screws? The diablo I have en route is missing two things: a bridge pickup mounting screw, and a selector switch tip.

I just purchased a bunch of direct mount pickup screws. I was looking for some in this thread: http://www.hamerfanclub.com/forums/topic/54859-help-pickup-screws/page__fromsearch__1

The best I could do was a place on Ebay. Anyways, they are #4-40, pan head phillips, black. They are 7/8" long. Not sure if they are the exact length Hamer originally used but they seem to match the screws they replaced perfectly in my Hamer USA Centaura. I had to order them bulk of 100. You are welcome to some if that's what you need. Just PM me your address. I have 94 left after replacing the ones in my Cent.

Here's the place I ordered them from: http://www.ebay.com/itm/380414928581?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

Hope this helps!

Cool! when I get home (diablo #2 just got here) i'll pull one of the screws and see how long it is just to check. The threaded bushing is still there.

screw is 7/8 inch long, on the dot. also noticed, that on the bridge pickup, the tape on the coils only is on the bottom half. weird. I may get some new tape from stew mac as I don't really like being able to see the magnet of the pickups. also gotta get a spring for the pickup. diablo #2 is in better shape than the first one. No chips through the finish, though plenty of buckle bumps on the back. currently I've got the floyd pulled while I get the pickup stuff sorted out. then i'll put it back together. There was also a buncha BLARGH in the trem cavity, as usually happens when a guitar is 15+ years old.

Looks like that's just how uncovered '59 pickups are. Not sure why they'd only tape half the pickup but it's probably the side that has the wires coming out. I'll post pictures once I'm done putting it back together.
