How do I wire this pickup & what is it?

I got this 18k pickup a while back on eBay for like $7. It has 3 wires (1 red, 1 white + 1 bare). It measures 18k between the red/bare, 9k between the white/bare). I was gonna ground the bare to the volume pot & the red to the pickup selector (standard 2 HB wiring with 1 x vol + 2 x tone or 1 x vol + 2 x tone). I have no idea what to do with the white wire. Just wanna try it out & not expecting much from it tbh...

Also, does anyone know what it is (says Cyclone on the cover)...

The white is a center tap. If you connect that to a switch with the other end to ground, you can short out half of the bucker to get a single coil sound.

If you're not interested in that, just tape it off and not use it.

Yeah, that's what I would have guestimated. I'll tape it off for now & if I like it, will wire it up for coil-tap. Cheers :)

Oh - And i've never heard of Cyclone pickups, but start a rumor that EVH used them on their early demos, and the price will skyrocket for a nice return on investment. :)

:D Brilliant!

(...but I bet it's a bog o' shit lol)

you could solder the white tap lead to the loose un used lug on a tone pot...

Having the tone pot will ground out the coil~ single coil.

Role the tone pot to 9,... Humbucker!

No switch needed ;)

I'll look into that. Cheers :)
