Victor (Fret Friend) Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 Anyone got a German made Hamer FR (as is stock on my Cali/Cent). The one on my Cent is stripped out (saddle screws). Gonna do all I can to get this fixed but most threads are stripped & I'm not sure I'm gonna be able to fix it good.If anyone has one, I'll pay good money. Only other option is for me to buy a Schaller licensed FR as it's an exact fit replacement for the Hamer one. I don't wanna spend the price of a new Schaller...
Victor (Fret Friend) Posted November 3, 2012 Author Posted November 3, 2012 Hmm! That might do but I'm worried about the thickness of the basepalte. These Hamer/Schallers are about 5mm thick & the linked one looks to be around 2mm. I can get a Schaller licensed Floyd for around £100 but I don't wanna spend that much.I'll certainly email Rockinger & get the dimensions. Thanks Zen...
Victor (Fret Friend) Posted November 3, 2012 Author Posted November 3, 2012 I emailed Rockinger last night & am waiting on a reply. I also have 2 possibles from here. Waiting to hear back from another guy on here. Don't be shy now people! This Cent needs fixing...
Andrew Posted November 3, 2012 Posted November 3, 2012 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Helicoil-Thread-Repair-Kit-M3-x-0-5-/360493930081?pt=UK_Hand_Tools_Equipment&hash=item53ef1cd661I think they are M3 screws in the plate. Easy repair and they last if you want to keep the original plate. If you go down the new route make sure you get one with hardened inserts. There are several Schaller models under all sorts of names which doesn't help..
Victor (Fret Friend) Posted November 3, 2012 Author Posted November 3, 2012 Great advice Andrew I was looking at going the Helicoil route but would have preferred to avoid it. Lets see what this weekend brings & if this bridge request is not fruitful, I will have to look at the Helicoil Thread Repair Kit...
Victor (Fret Friend) Posted November 5, 2012 Author Posted November 5, 2012 We are away to Hungary for 10 days from tomorrow so if anyone has any more advice (re: our PMs), just drop a line to my inbox & I'll catch up after 16th when we're back. My partner Michèle is having her sleeve finished/coloured:
Victor (Fret Friend) Posted November 22, 2012 Author Posted November 22, 2012 So, I went out & bought a new Schaller baseplate (I think it worked out at around $50.00 delivered). The modern version has steel thread inserts for the saddle screws which is a BIG plus IMO. BIG thanks to zenmindbeginner for the link. Only compromise is, I don't have Hamer stamped on the trem but hey-ho = the new baseplate is fab fab fab... I still wanna buy a Hamer stamped Schaller FR in black for those who may still have one... I might still swap out the Dimebucker for the PATB I recently purchased. IMO, they don't sound too different but the PATB just has more street-cred on a Hamer superstrat IMO. I'd love to get hold of an original Hamer Slammer humbucker tho if anyone has one as I'm almost 100% certain that it would have been stock on my Cent... My 2 killa guitars (the only 2 I have now)... Tuning to C standard @ 432hz (the Divine frequency) so back down to 2 springs... My 88 Cali in Ice Blue Metallic. All stock & plays/sounds better than any guitar I ever owned (& I had a few)...
Andrew Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 I'm confused.432Hz should be A for nineteenth century pitch, 440Hz for modern. So what do you mean by C standard at 432Hz?EDITED TO ADD:I looked it up. Dropped C (two tones) plus a bit for 440 down to 432Hz for A.That's loose and floppy.
Victor (Fret Friend) Posted November 23, 2012 Author Posted November 23, 2012 Yeah, it is a tad loose & floppy with 9-42s but I like it. It's tighter with 10-46s but I prefer the 9-42s I think... 432 gives your sound something 'more' - can't put my finger on it but boy, can you hear the difference...
