New Here, Tremolo Question(s)

Duplex Dave

Question

Posted

Hey everyone, this looks like a very cool forum! I have an older Hamer tremolo I'm trying to find some new saddles and possibly a new plate for. I have some pics, but not sure how to atatch them to a post? This is a Strat style trem. I have not even seen any pics online of it, much less find any new parts other than the normal allen screws and wood screws.

Any help would be great (esp. on posting pics) Thanks, Dave

Q: How do I post images?

A: Two ways:

  1. If the image is hosted somewhere in Cyberspace Hit the "IMG" button above the text box, paste in the FULL PATH to the image, and hit the "IMG" button again (or "Close Tags"). You will see something that looks like this: yourimage.jpg . In this example, your image will appear within your typed message.
  2. This alternate example is friendlier to those without a high speed Internet connection, and is a variation of the example above. In this example, you paste the full path to the image into the body of your post without hitting the IMG button. This will provide the viewers with a link to the image. The images can be as large as you like, you can list as many as you want, and dial up users won't crash when they open the thread. This also gives those interested the option to click on the link to view the image, or continue to browse the thread without waiting for the images to load.

Note: Uploading of images is not enabled.

Q: What if I don't have any Web hosting for my images?

A: Get some! There are several Web sites that provide free image hosting. Many sites such as Image Shack and Photobucket are free.

Ah, finally. So what is this bridge called? And, can I get new saddles and a bridge plate for it?

I'll post pics of the guitar and serial # tomorrow (monday, it's at the shop)

Thanks! Dave

Ah - that's a Wilkinson VSV-G trem. Hamer used those on the Daytonas and Mirage guitars, but there have been a few added to other models on a custom order basis (like on a few Studios and at least one Artist model).

The replacement parts aren't really available, since Gotoh bought out Wilkinson 10 years or so ago. Replacing the whole trem seems to be the only way to do it, for better or for worse.

One of my favorite trems - they never go out of tune on my Daytonas! The top one is an original one from the mid-90s, and the gold one below is a more recent Gotoh version. They are slightly different specs, and the new bars, blocks, etc. are not interchangeable with the older units.

There is also a matching non-trem bridge from the '90s, but those are a bit tougher to track down:

Very cool! Thank you so much for the info! I new I'd seen this trem out there before. I will look up prices on a new Gotoh/Wilkinson and see where it takes me. This is a really cool guitar I'll show you some pics tomorrow. I'll have some more questions about the model and year.

WOW, that double neck is incredible! I've learned a ton about Hamer from this forum in a very short amount of time. Thanks to all who contribute.
