Blown Speaker?

Question

My amp has an Eminence Texas Heat speaker. I don't know anything about the speaker except its name and it isn't the original speaker. When I hit a muted E it makes a pretty bad sound. It sounds blown to me but I'm not sure. If I play a muted E and at the same time I press my fingers against the cone of the speaker I can make the sound go away. Does that sound indicative of a blown speaker? The original was a Celestion Sidewinder and the amp is a Ampeg VL-503 50 watt amp.

Thanks in advance!

no pun intended, but,

sounds like the voice coil is shot, and rubbing, rattling on the outer sleeve.

With your hands, gently and evenly push the cone inwards. It should move in and out free of friction. If you feel any roughness, it's the voice coil.
