Like the question says...this is probably a question right up Jay's/Murkat's alley.
In case you're all wondering what it's about, here's an article from Gibson...notice that it says nothing about WHEN they started "Traditonal Weight Relieving" (that's the nine holes in the Les Paul's mahogany body), other that they've been doing it for longer than the other two methods...which means it's possibly/probably the one method more people may encounter today in a used Les Paul. TIA!
Edited to add: Conversely, I guess this question could be asked as well: When was the last year when Les Pauls WEREN'T weight relieved as a rule? Also, did some model LPs get it first, and other LP models later?
