Schaller repro 'Keystone' tuner is slipping

Question

Hi All:

The B string tuner (and to a lesser extent the G string tuner) on my junior detunes during moderate to heavy bends. Strings are not new (fully stretched out).

Can these tuners be tightened up? It looks like the back cover of the tuner could be pushed off the back of the tuner once the attachment screws are removed, but, .... is there anything to tighten up? Any suggestions here?

Thanks

Do you know for sure it's the tuner slipping? I used to blame that issue on tuners too, but found it was actually the nut and saddle. The string would catch enough that it didn't go back after a bend.

Thanks for the thought, Sugartune. Could see the string(s) hang up if they were wound strings, but a plain string? That said, I'll give'er the old pencil lead in the nut slot business. Can't imagine it's hanging up on the bridge since it's a wraptail.

Thanks again -- I'll try it and report back

I had the same strings on mine catch on the nut. More to do with the break angle rather than wound/unwound. My luthier cut and lubed it and it was perfect after that. Stuck to the same gauge and brand of strings and had no further issues.

It was a pinging sound when turning the tuners that gave it away.
