iTunes help please!

Question

I have been using iTunes since it started and love it. I am not a computer expert but can follow directions easily.

Here is the scenario:

My PC has XP. It has 16k songs loaded. When I tried to load the newest iTunes version, it crashed iTunes and no matter what I tried, I cannot get iTunes to open or work because it says the library was created with a new version.

I decided this was a good time to upgrade so I bought a new Toshiba laptop and installed iTunes.

How do I load my 16k songs into my new laptop? I have all the files on an external drive but short of loading them folder by folder is there an easier way?

Thanks!

Should be easy. Connect the drive to your new computer, then go to

FILE -> Add To Library -> highlight folder with your music -> OPEN

That should begin the process of transferring everything over. You may need to be signed into your iTunes account.

Another option that may work is if you've signed up for iTunes Match. If you did, sign into it and simply download all of your music by clicking on Cloud icon.

I will try this tonight. Thank you.

If you have all the music in a master folder (if the external drive held the library and not just copies of the file, you do), you only need to select the top-level folder. At worst, you'll have to select all the artist folders. But it'll slide right in and you'll be back in business.
