yuominae Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 I'm pondering whether I should sell my Special or my Studio (If only my Heritage 157 would sell instead...). It's a 1993 I think, in fairly good condition. What's a reasonable price to ask for? $350?
tbonesullivan Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 What color? P-90 special? HB? FM Special?I wouldn't let any of my hamers go for south of $1000 now, except for the Diablos, which are worse for wear, and my Candy Apple Red Special, which is also kinda beat up compared to the others.

I think it's supposed to be a Special Custom (if there is such a thing?). Flame maple on mahogany. Humbuckers with TOM bridge. Cherry Sunburst finish. Looks real nice.I'm on my phone now, so can't put pictures in the post, but here's a link to the pictures i took today whilst pondering whether or not to sell it: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/iiu0dtqtldtt7m5/AADngfTfkZbXKTN7mv4g5FrYa?dl=0.It's nice, but not mint...Just a ballpark figure would be fine, it's so I can decide whether it's worth listing it or not.
cmatthes Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Sounds like a "Special FM". From the early '90s, depending on condition, originality, quality of flame and finish, could be between $650-$1,000.
tbonesullivan Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 1993 FM special in '59 Burst color. The neck pickup has been replaced, but the rest looks original. I have two 1993 Hamers, and love them both.Price would depend on what's been installed in the neck. Is it something expensive and boutique, or something cheap they threw in there because the original died? That's the question. With the stock seymour duncan '59, I'd pay 750-1000 for that, dependent on how the frets are, how dented the body is, etc. Also, that truss rod seems to have been turned pretty far.
yuominae Posted July 9, 2015 Author Posted July 9, 2015 Thank you guys! tbone, the seller said the pickup was replaced with a Gibson 57 classic, so mid-range I'd say. It sounds good, so haven't pulled it to check, but Now that you mention it, maybe I should... I was doing some sums yesterday and figured around $750 with shipping, so that's good to hear Just gotta figure out if I can part with it now...
tbonesullivan Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 Not sure if that would be an upgrade or not. I have had mixed experiences with the 57 classics. I have not had mixed experiences with a Duncan 59. I love them in every guitar I've had, and laughed my butt of as others spent tons of money searching for the perfect pickup.

They're ok, but not on a par with a set from a boutique winder. I'm not a huge fan of Duncan 59s either though. I've had a few Heritages in which they sound good, and a lot in which they sounded just ok. Sometimes the combination gets just right and they sound really great though. To be honest, on this one I bought a set of BG pups Pure 90s that I was going got throw in as an upgrade, but thought I'd better keep it close to stock as it might be easier to sell..
