Guest pirateflynn Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 I bought my Triple Threat for $2800 and sold it for $2300, I believe that's a 17% loss. When did you sell it? I'm guessing months ago, probably longer. There are dealers out there who'll sell a new TT for around $2000 now (Current Price), so I doubt you'd get more than $1600 for it now (which would be -43%, damn close to what my equation predicts). I had no offers over $1650 on the one I just sold and it was a quatersawn 10 top with $300 WCR pups in it. Count yourself lucky, you bailed on the "TT" stock before the market correction... My auction ended Oct. 22nd, so that's 3 months. I don't really consider myself lucky. I think I marketed it as well as I could and got results (that includes timing). Great photos helped, plus I had a very positively written ad. The photos of my guitar were circulated heavily on HFC, Hamer Museum and TGP for weeks before I sold the guitar and that generated a great deal of interest before it was actually for sale. I even had a few offers by email and PM. Long story short, it sold in less than 30 minutes with a Buy It Now of $2300. My guitar was all original and that made a difference, too. I'm a big fan of WCR pickups but the TT is a mildly collectable guitar and some guys are turned off by pickup swaps. While you may have "bailed" on your Hamers, I didn't with my TT. I loved that guitar but the neck carve was uncomfortable for me and I gave another guy a chance at it who digs the '59 neck. He was very happy and wrote me to say so, $2300 for a guitar of that caliber is very rare. I thought your Hamers were very cool, especially the Newport BE....... Hey, I bid on it! I hope you're not turned off by Hamer because of this experiance. They are very competively priced and are a hell of a product. killertone Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 Really great guitars, absolutely horrible resale, think used Yugo then take it down a notch When I was a Hamer dealer I had a hell of a time selling the guitars. I ended up selling at cost or below on guitars like Newports and Studio Customs. I had a couple of custom orders that I actually made a few bucks on because I kept my Monaco Elite Custom at the shop to show people how great Hamers were. I had a huge problem of people coming in to the shop and seeing a cool Hamer and then finding it on ebay for half the price barely used. The horrid resale kept me from selling my brand new stock.

I got a chuckle out of that quote... thanks I needed that... the stock pups were SD SH-1 '59's not like you couldn't put'em back in... I'm sorry to say this but Hamer's are about as colletible as rocks from Nepal... I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree here. I loved both of my Hamer's. I only sold them becuase I had to. I think Hamer makes some of the best guitars around. The "TT" was really something, better than my former R9, and the Newport Pro was the most stunning guitar I've ever seen from a uniqueness of beauty standpoint. I may someday buy another Hamer, but I would never buy a new one again, not even if Jol built it, autographed it, and followed me around whenever I played it... BTW: I'll be selling a beautiful straight grained Hamer Artist Korina with P-90's (all original ) as soon as it gets here next Tuesday. PM me and I'll send pic's if anyone's interested...
