Custom Shop Historic '57 Les Paul Custom reissue.  Any way to tell what decade this was built?  The Les Paul Forum and Gibson Customer service are unresponsive.

pot codes

and the GCS decal type just south of the serial #, volute area of the neck, headstock.

Round circle type, 2003

1993 would be a plant guitar, made in the custom shop closet onsight, pre massman GCS location

Jackpot!  Codes are all CTS 0317 or 0318, so the guitar is almost certainly a 2003.  A great year for mahogany at Gibson,as I recall.

This is a holy grail guitar for me.  A black beauty Custom with a huge '57 RI neck and big frets. It isn't a lightweight at just over 10 lbs., but it's manageable.  Sounds fantastic with the stock pickups, which I assume are 57 classics.  The only changes I plan on making are replacing the newish abr-1 and tailpiece with aged Faber tonelock units.  Everything else on th guitar appears to be stock.

Popped up unexpectedly at my local Guitar Center.  Fortunately, they love to trade, and give decent value.
