scottcald Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 What do you use to shim the Floyd Rose nut if the thin shims that come with it aren't enough? Do you just keep stacking them or are there thicker ones?
Jeff R Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 You can get more shims and keep on stacking them, easiest solution and no harm. Or if you have a really thick void to fill cleanly, you make a rosewood, maple or ebony shim to build, build up, extend, while matching the adjacent fingerboard. Here's a similar but more extreme example ... a MIJ Charvel conversion to Floyd nut from a traditional nut and a Jackson JT-6 benind-the-nut clamp. If your shelf is already cut and you don't need too thick of a shim, look for rosewood or ebony peghead veneer, or bridge plate stock if you need maple. It will likely be close to the thickness you need straight outta the gate.
scottcald Posted August 31, 2018 Author Posted August 31, 2018 Thanks, Jeff. Yeah, it's actually a project I'm assembling. Unless the R2 nuts from back then were taller, the shelf is too low. If I sit the nut directly on it, the slots are at or just a hair below the fretboard, probably below if I screwed it down.
