diablo175 Posted February 23, 2019 Posted February 23, 2019 For the last year or so I've been going on about how awesome the Gravelin Mongoose pickups are. I have sent Josh video (shitty Phone) clips of his p'ups in various axes but I've never officially A/B-ed them and documented the comparison. So, this morning, I set out to do just that as the Liberace Cali (Gatorbytes007's former case plug beauty) was on the list of recipients and the Seymour Duncan PATB-1's number was up. I recorded several different segments with various different presets in the Axe FX3 (clean-ish, driven and massively processed) with the Trembucker and will do the same now that the Mongoose is in there. I can state, unequivocally, that thru my Marshall rig, the difference was significant. The Trembucker sounds shrill and one dimensional compared to the Mongoose. To be fair, the PATB-1 has a great high end cut and superb response to gain with kickass harmonics and lead runs seem to soar with the Trembucker. The Mongoose as you will likely hear, has a much more full, musical quality with the same ease of achieving harmonics and string responsiveness as the PATB-1. I'll post the results as soon as I get them formalized.

Yeah, I've got a Mongoose in my Charvel CS Star and a Gravelin rewound Dimarzio in the DK24 and they both rock! I'm having Josh rewind the SD Distortion for the other DK24.

If it doesn’t sell I’m thinking about having Josh do some of his magic on it just because. I don’t even have a guitar for it to go into... What kind of change did you notice from his rewind of your Dimarzio?

Greater range of dynamics and again, more musical sounding. Josh has rewound several p'ups for me. The only issues we've run into are the original magnets- this will determine which type he can replace them with. In at least two instances, it prevented him from converting it over to true Mongoose.

Played on Gatorbytes007's former "Liberace" Case Plug Cali Custom, thru a Fractal Axe FX3 using identical settings/levels for both trials. First of each 3 segments is with the SD PATB-1, the second is the Gravelin Mongoose.
