My new-to-me '93 USA Studio came with not only transplanted Korean linear taper pots, but apparently also a metric L-type toggle switch. So odd. In any case, I've got the replacement CTS pots in hand, and need to order a new switch. From the layout and clearances, I surmise USA Studios use L-type Switchcraft switches. True?

Actually, the Rickenbacker variant. Should be a link in older postings. I’ll see if I can round it up.

The Switchcraft L will work fine, but the Rick switch has the longer lever.

Here's a post with the information:

And here are a couple of places on Reverb to buy them: https://reverb.com/marketplace?query=Rickenbacker 08834

They haven't been available on Pick of the Ricks for some time.

Hope that helps.

Thanks! And now I'll have to examine my switch more carefully: It has the longer lever with the longer throw, and even has the black cap. It might be the original after all.

I was going to ask why Hamer used a long-toggle switch instead of the shorty, but then answered my own question. The toggle sits behind the tailpiece and over the tone knob, where the player is more likely to use the back of the pinky to move the switch down, and hook it with the pinky to move it up. The longer toggle presents a good target.

Yep, I much prefer the longer switch lever with the Hamer control layout.  Just another nuance that makes for a better instrument.
