Their licks were good for a beginner to learn from, but I quickly excelled to become a genuine virtuoso who can look down upon the inadequacies of Molly Hatchet's 'guitar players' if one could consider them able to play in the first place."

Yeah, it's always more when it's someone who's had some success.

I think if you can't get in touch with that, it's really easy to think guitar is all about chops and gear when, if we're all being honest, it never really was.  Those things are fucking awesome when you throw them on top of already great, exciting music, but they aren't what made band legendary by themselves.   Without that kind of "fuck, fight, or dance" attitude, it's really just all pop music with a little guitar aesthetic sprinkled in, and pop is superficial and ephemeral by definition.

Interesting assessment re: the fuck, fight or dance angle. And likely, idealistic these days. Like just about anything in our capitalistic/corporate society, genuine emotions like rage, disenfranchisement, isolation, love, resentment, revolution, and all the various pathos that rock musicians used to call forth & channel, are for the most part, no more. Electric guitar for some, was a conduit, a tool to help convey those emotions. It has transformed much in the way rock music has changed. It symbolizes less about the sound and fury that rock once embodied and is now either a required prop or musical vehicle to technically master.

Not saying it's wrong to want to master the guitar to the extent that it helps you craft your music and communicate your idea or emotion. But to the extent that it becomes a  soulless device to prove your mastery of it, for bragging rights or adulation, is missing the point.

I figure everybody shits behind a pair of heels I have a dude that had a recording contract in my band great guitar player / vocalst Super great person as well. I am no virtuoso but i can hold my own

This dude was all set to tour Japan and Europe and got into a horrible car accident similar to mine i had April 21st of this year Broke both legs my sternum my ribs my left clavicle  Imagine shitting in a bedside camode for 3 months and taking sponge baths for 5 months.. A total nightmare. A dude in a Penski huge straight truck ran a stop sign and head onned me

Anyway Don my guitar player vocalist coudn't be a nicer guy no ego he knows hes good but thats ok he is the icing on the cake is the way i see it. We play very well together and he has a lot of contacts around here very valuable asset. He had the beginning MEGADEATH band play at his graduation They originated from Dunkirk NY i believe. Right down the road from us  This dudes father supported his family by playing music as a professional guitar player. HE's definitely a chip off the old block
