kurtsstuff Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 Email sent on the Diablo I I'll take it....never tried one
atquinn Posted March 15, 2006 Author Posted March 15, 2006 Email sent on Stetsbar.Anyone try one of these? I bought the stetsbar to put on the AK3P90 I got from Serial It fit perfectly and didn't harm the finish (there was no sign it had ever been installed when I took it off). It came with some extra hardware that I believe was meant for the other type of tune-o-matic bridge (metric or standard, whichever Hamers aren't). The action was very smooth; and in terms of modifying pitch, it was somewhere between a bigsby and a vintage fender trem (tending more to the fender trem side). I had two issues with it.1) When set up to float, it didn't seem to return to pitch all that well. I didn't really try to troubleshoot the issue, I just set it up to only decrease pitch, so it's possible it could have been resolve by filing the nut a bit or doing some of the other routine things you often have to do to get trems to behave themselves.2) The trem had a screw-in arm. I don't like screw in arms. And the way the trem was set up, it was a bit of a chore to get the arm on and off without scratching up the guitar. This wouldn't be an issue if the trem were set up to float and it wasn't a big deal for me since I generally don't store my guitar in their cases. However, if I did, it would have been a major PITA. So, what do I think of the Stetsbar? Stetsbars sell for ~$270 and I got mine for a little over $80 off eBay. I wouldn't buy one at the full price, but I'd buy one again for what I paid. I'd keep mine, but I don't have any guitars I can put it on, and I don't plan on getting any in the near future.

BLuesBuster Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 Huh? You seemed pretty psyched by the Diablo's when you got them (I remember the Diablo II discussion). Why did you fall out of love?
atquinn Posted March 15, 2006 Author Posted March 15, 2006 Huh? You seemed pretty psyched by the Diablo's when you got them (I remember the Diablo II discussion). Why did you fall out of love? Both of them are sweet guitars, but I have 6 guitars, which is too many for me to play! My 7 string has an HSH pickup layout like the Diablo II, but I play the 7 string more because, being a 7-string, it lets me do things none of my other guitars do. I'm playing my Cali more than the Diablo I (the Diablo has a much better neck sound, but I like the bridge and combined sounds a bit more on the Cali), so it too has to go. Diablo I's are fairly common, so when (not if) I feel the urge to own another one somewhere down the line, I figure I'll be able to get one pretty easily. I even have a PATB-1 and a Bluesbucker on hand for the bridge and neck when that day comes along. Basically, I'm a gear whore -Austin
atquinn Posted March 24, 2006 Author Posted March 24, 2006 Well, it looks like the Diablo I may be sold, but the Diablo II is still available. $575 to your door.-Austin

atquinn Posted July 12, 2006 Author Posted July 12, 2006 ...is the Diablo still for sale? The answer is "not yet". I still have it and I'm still planning on selling it, but first I want to get another Hamer in my stable (I have my eye on something, but negotiations seem to have stalled). That will give me a box to ship the Diablo in. I don't have any boxes to ship guitars in right now and I don't need the money, so I don't want to go through the hassle of selling it until I get a box. Unless you're in the NYC area and want to pick it up from me (in that case, the price would be less too).-Austin
