Playing a Newport 12 string as a 6 string

Hi,

I just bought a Newport 12 string. I already have a Phantom 12 string. I wanted a Newport 6 but got this great deal on the 12.

I've read different things about playing a 12 as a 6 but most of it pertains to acoustics. Has anyone tried it? Will it damage the neck? Let me know if you have any experience.

I say catch and release.  You will be able to sell the Newport 12 to a happy customer (there are plenty here right on the HFC) who will pay you more than enough to buy the Newport 6 of your dreams.
