tobereeno Posted May 1, 2005 Posted May 1, 2005 with nothing more than a putty knife and an iron and a mere 30 minutes, I got the fretboard off my Cruise bass WITH LEDS INTACT AND FUNCTIONAL!!! whoo!I'm now waiting for my new 2-way truss rod (Hot Rod, anyone have experience with these btw?) and carbon fiber rods to arrive from Stew Mac. Putting those in will be straightforward, but I do admit to a bit of apprehension about putting the board back on! I did order a bunch of their fretboard strap clamp thingies - actually, I don't doubt getting the thing back on (there are fretboard pin locators that make alignment a no brainer), but I do wonder if I'll likely somehow make the fretboard less true. Certainly I don't consider myself a craftsman equal to the gods at Hamer!I'll add pics later but I did find something interesting - a large gap at the end of the neck joint. Was this normal?
Craig Posted May 1, 2005 Posted May 1, 2005 Cool Toby, I have to admit, it takes balls of steel to try that with no previous experience. Lots of luck, and keep us in the loop
tobereeno Posted May 1, 2005 Author Posted May 1, 2005 here's the patient: a closeup of the neck joint: an interesting bit at the end - mahogany shims to fill in the space between the fretboard and the body. Disassenbly of the neck was made much easier by the fact that the fretboard had already separated at this point on its own:
formula73 Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 My KK Vectors had gaps like that. If you go to www.kahlerusa.com you can see the gap in KKs Vector on the main page.
kizanski Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 Damn Tobe! You must carry your balls around in a wheel barrow!Good luck with that!
