  1. Never caught my attention enough to form an informed opinion. Which says that thay suck, otherwise I would have paid attention. Why the heck can't everybody assume my quality standards? Really, it is the least obstructed and most capacitated manner to view art, regardless of form or venue. Take a minute, think it over. Ha! Foolin' you! Art stands on its own base, its purpose it to satisfy the artist. The rest of us are voyers. Glad I could help. Shit, this rates another new thread....
  2. Perhaps I missed the joke. If so, regrets. He comes off as a jerk, though. Consider..... "....some clueless professional type who's into guitars and music out of hero worship and a desire to recapture the excitement of his youth that's sorely lacking from his middle-aged adult existence.." that's pretty mean language and mean people suck
  3. "Yeah the doofus who posted this on The Gear Page did so thinking he was exposing DLR's lack of vocal ability. Turns out the only thing he exposed was himself as someone who's obviously never been in a recording studio before and is most likely the stereotypical Gear Pager: some clueless professional type who's into guitars and music out of hero worship and a desire to recapture the excitement of his youth that's sorely lacking from his middle-aged adult existence. He's been soundly lambasted for his opinion, and rightly so." You, sir, are an anal unit.
  4. Wow, thanks everyone for your responses! I'll have to make a long list and then prioritize. If you haven't seen the Los Lonley Boys Austin show I mentioned, they do a crowd pleaser for sure when two play for a bit with one hand only. They toss the guitar and bass up and down with their left hands for a while, catching the necks and hitting the notes at the same time. Seems they don't miss a single note. Most amazing to me, never saw that before anywhere. Also, in the Sheryl Crow C'mon show, it looks to me like guitarist Peter Stroud uses a Hamer in a couple songs. Can you confirm?? Thanks again everyone.
  5. Lately I really enjoy rocking out with cool DVDs of great shows. The best recent was Jake's Leg's 30th Anny show in St. Louis. (Jake's is a Dead+ cover band in my home town of St. Louis; I saw them 4-6x/month for years in the 80's, my early Dead days.) Other really fun shows I've picked up are REM Perfect Square; Los Lonley Boys in Austin; Sheryl Crow, C'mon America; and Neville Bros, Tell It Like It Is. (YES, In The Round kinda sucks, but I saw them both times they came thru St. Louis that year.) My next buy will likely be a '79 ELP show that's out there now, I also saw them in '79 and they were simply amazing. But, what would you recommend and why? I'm open minded, my "top shelf" CD's range from Benny Goodman to Cash to U2 to LOTS of WSPanic and a whole shelf of just Dead. So, what would you suggest I add to my collection? Why? THANKS!!!!
  6. Hey, if it would you make you feel better, something to distract you from grief, I'll give you my first and only electric guitar, a Korean Hamer Slammer tele copy. But you should know that pretty much all of the rest of the folks on this board will make fun of you for owning it. Nevertheless, if you want it I'll give it to you. I love it and it's cool. For real, if you want it, I'll ship tomorrow. Let me know... musky_ranger@yahoo.com something for you to look forward to, you know? Ranger
  7. Oh man, what a tough experience to struggle through. Many many many many many many many many positive vibes are being sent your way; you have a lot of people thinking of you and your family and the energy is helping, though in the middle of the crisis you may not see or feel it. But we ARE there on your behalf. Lined up. Hang in there. Maybe in a week or so will you please let us know how you are doing? Ranger
  8. I only have my old Dead albums in a box somewhere. But here goes... Carlos Santana and Buddy Miles Live - whatever side has "Free From Funkadelic Filth" on it Little Feat - Waiting for Colombus, whatever side has Dixie Chicken (love that Spanish Moon, too. And Willin'.) Another nod for Yessongs, Starship Trooper. (Did you happen to get to see them play "In the Round" back in like '78 or so? Round stage slowly turning in the middle of the venue. Don't bother with the DVD of the era, the sound is awful.)
  9. I'll take you a step back before SNL.... National Lampoon Radio Hour had most of the original cast of SNL, including Belusi, Ackroyd, Gilda, that black guy, etc. I recall a show where Hunter Thompson (RIP) drove to somewhere on the west coast where the Dead and fans were all on barges. The barges were cut loose, not to stop until they reached Hawaii, and the Dead started the first set playing a song about shooting cocaine, "Talkin' 'bout that cocaine express, mainline..." Like 1973 or so? Anyone else remember that? Sure sounded like Jerry and the boys, but I've never run across any reference to the band playing for the show.
  10. Grateful Dead - Various Widespread Panic - Live in the Classic City and others Bob Marley and the Wailers - Live! Feat - Waiting for Colombus And another vote for Live at Leeds In spite of my Deadhead ways, the best concert I EVER attended was an ELP show in St. Louis in the late 70's. Standing ovation for every song except the opener, unbelievable talent. Robin Trower was another killer show around that time; I think "In City Dreams" was just released. If you haven't seen it, Los Lonley Boys, Live in Austin, is an awesome DVD show. As is REM's Perfect Square. IMHO
