crunchee Posted November 16, 2024 Posted November 16, 2024 Granted, they're basses, so not much impact on those of us that like guitars. I'm not sure that one of these is worthy of the nearly US $5 Grand price tag, though...if they were gonna do something like this at this price, I would want a Jazz PU in the bridge position for a P/J configuration, too: Limited Edition "P" Jazz Bass Relic® | Limited Edition Series | Fender® Custom Shop But still, Fender churns out CS RI guitars in the incorrect color for a particular year all the time, seemingly without anybody complaining about those. Or maybe they do?
Devnor Posted November 17, 2024 Posted November 17, 2024 Quite few of the dealer custom P basses have J profile necks. Been a thing for a pretty long while. New colors are always a good thing but if you want, you can still get a boring 3 tone SB finish. I'm a bit of a purist when it comes to the P bass so I would take a pass on J necks and 2 pickups.
crunchee Posted November 17, 2024 Author Posted November 17, 2024 You can always go to Fender's 'Mod Shop' for whatever you want without waiting for Fender to make it part of their product lineup, as long as you have the money: Build Your Custom Guitars & Basses at Fender Mod Shop The article below has a listing of Fender Custom Colors, their original automobile sources, and the years used by both Fender and auto manufacturers. It also points out some examples of what are NOT likely to be an authentic Fender color for a model year: Vintage Guitars Info - Fender custom color finishes on vintage Fender guitars If somebody wants to make their own Partscaster to their own specs and they change their mind afterward, I'm not against snagging it for a bargain price. That's how I wound up with my 'Mutt' J Bass (MIM factory nitro-finished 'Road Worn' J Bass body/MIM fretless Standard series J Bass neck) for much cheaper than a CS 'Partscaster' bass. It still serves the same purpose I got it for very nicely.
tbonesullivan Posted November 20, 2024 Posted November 20, 2024 Never understood the allure of any of the relic type guitars from the Fender custom shop. For that money you could get a TRUE custom bass, and have money left over.
