Saul Goodman Posted June 24, 2025 Posted June 24, 2025 I recently bought a pedal and to my surprise it worked without plugging in my power supply. Hmmm.... I thought, "Did this actually come with a battery?" So, I don't know if I've ever had this quandary. I'm sure the answer is yes, but, can I plug this into my power supply with a battery hooked up inside? It's the 4 screw bottom to remove so not just popping out a fixture like in some pedals. Also, this pedal will take 18 volts. Can I plug it into the 18v side of my PS with the battery still connected inside? Quote
alantig Posted June 24, 2025 Posted June 24, 2025 Don't know about the 18v thing, but the answer to the first question is...it depends. Some devices will cut off the battery if you plug an adapter in - maybe most, I'm not sure. Short term, it should be fine - if it doesn't cut off the battery, you'll find out soon enough. Long term, I'd worry about the battery corroding. 1 1 Quote
Dave Scepter Posted June 24, 2025 Posted June 24, 2025 Could you BE any more vague???.. said in my best Chandler Bing voice... we don't know what kind of pedal you have, and we don't know what kind of power supply you are using... however, I'm 90% sure it'll work...😒 1 Quote

It's an RC Booster V2. And the PS is a Dunlop DC Brick. I'm going to plug it into the front of my Cali Tweed and possibly into my Tonking Imperial Tri Tube Preamp which goes through the FX loop in the Cali Tweed or when bypassed goes through the front. I'll have to Google Chandler Bing. I'm going to take out the battery but it got my brain wondering what would have happened if I plugged in my PS before I plugged in my guitar cables (which lit up the diode in the pedal exposing the battery inside) and didn't realize there was a battery inside. Gabe Posted June 25, 2025 Posted June 25, 2025 You can put the pedal in the 9 V outlet or in the 18 V outlet of the PS. The 18 V will have some more headroom. Plugged into the PS the battery will be switched off, that does not matter. However if you use the PS and not the battery it is preferable to take the battery out, otherwise the battery may corrode and leak and damage the inside of the pedal. Also 4 screws do not appear to be a big technical challenge. Gabe 😀 4 1 2 Quote
