mathman Posted August 6, 2025 Posted August 6, 2025 I stumbled across this band on my YouTube feed and remembered really liking this song. Great bass playing, guitar and overall changes in the song. Great Bowie like voice. No reason other than I thought someone else might remember them fondly also. Too bad they didn't go farther. No Hamer content but a great opening bass line. 3 Quote
ZR Posted August 6, 2025 Posted August 6, 2025 One of my all-time favorite songs!! I love sooo much about it. I bought the album but it didn't thrill me as much as this one. The singer married Liv Tyler lasted 5 years. Didn't know this but her adoptive dad/ legal guardian was Todd Rundgren! 1 Quote
veatch Posted August 6, 2025 Posted August 6, 2025 Love this song. I'd propose it to the band I'm in, but i don't that would happen. Love the British busy/ringtone mix at the intro. 1 Quote
ZR Posted August 6, 2025 Posted August 6, 2025 Damn, this Internet machine! The distinctive "busy signal" sound in Spacehog's song "In the Meantime" is a sample from The Penguin Cafe Orchestra's "Telephone and Rubber Band". Specifically, the sample is a detuned version of a British busy signal, originally a sine tone pattern overlaid with a UK ringing tone. The song's drummer, Roy, used a busy and free signal from a British phone, demoing the song with a drumstick on pillows to create the rhythmic pulse. 1 1 Quote
LucSulla Posted August 6, 2025 Posted August 6, 2025 Classic case of a band whose first single was so frikin great that they were damned. You come out of the gate with pretty much the perfect pop-rock song, there is no way everything else isn't going to disappoint. 2 Quote
