Valvetech upgrades

I just got done IMing Rob to confirm his attendance at MWJV this weekend. He'll be there and has offered to perform all of the current upgrades to my original version VAC head while he's in town.

I've been hesitant to have them done because 1.) the amp sounds incredible as is (it was breathin' fire at last night's jam) and I don't like to mess with a good thing and 2.) I didn't want to take any chances by shipping it back and forth. Now that 2.) is no longer a concern I'm that much closer to taking the plunge.

So, VAC owners, I ask you ... should I or shouldn't I?

I have a newer one, but I'd have to trust the mastermind as far as if the upgrades are worthwhile.

I'm sure any mods are reversable anyway.

Personally, I think you should not do it. You are one of the guys who has mentioned how great your amp is, since day 1. I bought one used, based on recommendations here. Even though Rob modified mine (and was very generous about it), the amp just never worked for me. The amp did a lot of things well. I could not find my particular voice with it.

You ought to keep that one, and just buy the newer version.

I agree. The wife, however ...

Chris,

After hearing you and the amp together, I would say no to the upgrade. The two of you fit perfectly together. Plus, the one time I used it on a Sunday night, I thought it actually made me sound good. LOL

Now, on the other hand, wasn't the raffle amp from last year a newer model? Probably without the governor mod that Rob produced late last year. How did you feel with that one? I know the combo compared to your head + cabinet is a tough call. But, if you felt your sound was better with that amp, get the mods.

How's that for a definate maybe.
