Your First Guitar

My first guitar was an El Degus SG copy. I sold it to a girlfriend way back... I sometimes wonder if she still has it.

Yep, still got my '75 Sears Silvertone tobacco sunburst strat copy, It's got 2 SINGLE-coils inside humbucker-sized nickle covers. It's in need of tuning machines, and the spring for the bigsby clone, but even then, it wouldn't be playable.. it wasn't playable brand NEW!

At some point I spray painted it white (I was going for the richie blackmore look) and of course, I just sprayed OVER the original finish, so it only took about 9 years to dry!

As I said in another thread, I rarely sell anything.

Here are my #1s: I bought this Yamaha acoustic the summer before my sophomore year in college, 1975.

A year later, I bought this little parts tele from a friend who was playing in cover bands at the time.

Both these guitars still play and sound fantastic. The Yamaha has that huge rosewood sound of an old Gibson. The tele has a very fast neck. Both are more beat up than the pictures reveal. They've had lots of use. I was very lucky to have picked two decent playing and sounding guitars at a time when I knew nothing about guitars.

My first guitar was a Takamine GX-200, a short-lived all-mahogany set-neck solidbody that was kinda like a cross between a strat and an SG.

I lost it in a move in the early 90s. I wouldn't mind having it or another like it, not so much for sentiment but more because it was a pretty bad ass guitar for the money.

I've been saying for a few years if I come across another dirt cheap, I'll pick it up and set it up to play slide.

I had a Lotus Strat for my first guitar, actually not too bad but I traded it in and got an old San Dimas Charvel for #2. I still curse myself for selling that one...
