Personally, I can't listen to ANY song where the "singer" is Rod Stewart, even if it is a Jeff Beck song. I tried. Just can't do it.

Give me an instrumental any day!

not even "hot legs" ?

Not anything. Not ever. IMO, the guy is a no talent hack - albeit a tremendously successful one.

"Every Picture Tells A Story" is an all time favorite album. Gasoline Alley is another great one. The "Reason to Believe" box set has all of Rod Stewart's Mercury albums in one affordable package, and aside from a few later singles that have some nostalgic value for me, that's pretty much as good as he got.

The early blues/rock Jeff Beck recordings never did much for me, but Blow by Blow and Wired are excellent. I've tried some of his more recent fare, and while enjoyable, it doesn't find its way into my player much. I think Jeff Beck is one of those guitarists who never really found a vehicle to showcase his talents beyond the guitar-heads.

That could very well be true, but then we're all guitar heads, aren't we. Being a guitar head, I never gave it much thought.

Funny you should mention "Every Picture Tells A Story," since it is THE song that I point to when trying to put my dislike for Rod into words - lol!

Yeah, he should have joined a power pop band at some point LOL!

Funny you say vehicle, because on the list of things Jeff Beck is passionate about, guitar playing ranks a distant second to hot rods. It's not even the thing he likes most, yet he could be the best electric guitar player in the world. Scary, and I think that indifference made it easier for him to not give the slightest damn about who liked his music.

Lots of people can cop Hendrix, EVH, etc. note for note (well not me, but they are out there), but I've never heard anyone do a convincing Beck.
Check out Phil Brown. The man's totally unknown, but just screams on guitar.

Phil Brown sample (the solo is at the end

very very beck like, nice...............

That might be true today but I don't think it was true during the time of the Truth album. Beck was very competitive with Page and was blown away Zep caught on so big whereas his band only made a splash. In the end, he blamed it on Rod Stewart and said that all the girls fell in love with Plant which he said was the deciding factor. I'm sure that had something to do with it but Page's composition skills album after album were the REAL deciding factor.

I still love Truth. For me, it's just a great stand alone effort.
