MrGuitarguy Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 We just finished Neil Zaza's new album "When Gravity Fails" at the studio this Saturday. It comes out Aug. 15 and features some incredible guitar playing. Neil's one of the coolest guys in the world and a monster guitarist. The new album features Michael Anthony (Van Halen), Peter Frampton, Steve Smith (Journey), Jordan Rudess (Dream Theater) and more. Fans of Satriani will love this disc (and all of Neil's stuff). It features some cool string arrangements and a lot of tasteful guitar playing with a healthy dose of shred (or as we say "a little something for the kids") mixed in for flavor. I can't disclose the various sources of Neil's various tones, but I was surpised as hell when I found out what they were! Neil used his Signature Cort guitar as well as a EBMM Van Halen model. We also talked a bit about his Spiderman Hamer guitar, which I was sorry I didn't get to see in person as he sold it to....... um.... well... let's just say Spiderman has it. Check out Neil's tune "I Spy" on his website www.neilzaza.com/ or hear more on his myspace site www.myspace.com/neilzaza
jettster Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 Neil is an awesome guitarist and seems like a really nice dude. I have been looking forward to this CD. I have Staring at the sun and Melodica, both are really good!! I thoroughly enjoy his playing. Neil is highly under appreciated though, as the lack of replies to this thread indicates.
MrGuitarguy Posted July 28, 2006 Author Posted July 28, 2006 Yeah, I was surprised I wasn't asked about his Spidey guitar at least, though most of the older members here know that story pretty well. Neil is an amazing player. Wait till you hear the new disc, there's some sick playing on there! He's a really great guy. Oh, if you preorder his new disc, it comes autographed I believe. Details should be on his website. He'll be touring Asia fairly soon, so I recommend his show to any for our asian based hamerites. He may be touring with Gary Hoey and Michael Angelo as well, but that has not been finalized as of this time. Glad to see he has some hamer fans!
atquinn Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 I just listened to some stuff on MySpace. I'd heard of Neil Zaza of course, but I'd never actually heard his stuff. I'll be picking up some CD's in the near feature -Austin
sw686blue Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 I know nothing about Neil Zaza other than that he use to be endorsed by Hamer at one time. What's his story? What's the story behind the Spiderman guitar?
MrGuitarguy Posted July 29, 2006 Author Posted July 29, 2006 Yep, Neil's from Cleveland. And he still drives down to Columbus to use us! Neil used to play in a band called Zaza that had a hit called "Remember Tomorrow" during the 80's. Neil's been releasing solo instrumental albums since the early 90's. Edited to add: I think Serial has the details on the Spidey guitar. Serial? I know it was scalloped except for the first 5 (or 3) frets. Neil sold it to buy some new recording gear. He said it was a great guitar. The graphic on it was really cool. Does anyone still have a picture?
Guest JackButler Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 Neil's a great guy and a great player. I had one of Neil's students in my Rock 4/advanced class 2 weeks ago at the Virginia NGW campus. Last time I saw him, he had TM Stevens on bass and live he was using some Atomic amps and a Line6 controller.
