mykel Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 I really dig my Barber Tone Pump. I use it with both a Traynor YCV-40 and Pro Junior and it sounds good with both.
Abaco Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 That Fulltone Fulldrive is a very nice sounding pedal.
devastone Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 From what I've read the OCD is based on a Rat but uses Mosfets set up as diodes for clipping. I need to build a Rat clone and experiment with that.
raymund Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 I recommend the MI Audio Tube Zone or the very reasonably priced Blues Pro (http://www.miaudio.com) made by Michael Ibrahim in Sydney, but aslo available in the US (e.g. http://www.Musictoyz.com). Also very satisfying are the Tech 21 Sansamp GT-2 or original Ibanez Tubescreamer or Ibanez OD-855.
JES1680 Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 I would drag your amp around and audtiion the pedals with your amp. EL84 amps (to me) seem to be particualarly picky about ODs. I have a couple that are very picky and only work well with certain pedals. My favorite mid range od is the Lovepedal Eternity, spendy, and a long wait is required, but prices seem to have stabilized somewhat on the used market.I've got an OCD, but I've never been able to bond with it.
Guest Mike Lee Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 I have an earlier OCD, and while it can be a bit edgy on it's own, it works really well in a jam/gig situation. I guess I'll have to try one of the newer ones if they sound that much better.Recently I've been playing with the Analogman King of Tone. I got on the waiting list a long time ago and just got it a few weeks ago. It's two pedals in one box, and you can select clean, OD, or Fistortion for each one. Very transparent and maintains dynamics and note definition.
