1981 Hamer Special -- Trade or Sell

This 1981 special has been resurrected. It had been messed up by some lunatice who removed the sustain block (and lost it I guess) and put on a Kahler bridge, which required a long stay in surgery with my local luthier. My luthier filled the hole with a perfectly shaped chunk of mahogany, which he veneered over with flamy maple similar to the original. He then replaced bridge with original style Sustain Block -- from BCR Greg. Guitar now strings through the body again into the original ferrules.

The pickups are Seymour Duncan Phat Cats. Frets are low and wide -- ala Gibson fretless wonder style. Original Hamer plush case is in great shape. The original cherry nitro finish on the back and neck is nice, and checking nicely. Plenty of chips and worn bits all over -- but nothing too drastic. Has a proper real-life relic look to it.

The maple veneer top was refinished with a clear nitrocellulose laquer. Very pretty -- given that it has had wood surgery. It is now very attractive, and as close to original as it can be -- given my preference for Phat Cats over silly Dimarzio humbuckers. I think the fretboard looks like Brazilian Rosewood - but if not -- it is a very grainy dark rosewood. Dot inlays are pearl of course. Grover tuners are not original -- but they're nice!

The important thing is that this guitar sounds so incredibly rich and soulful it's unbelievable. I think the deal is that a single-piece aged mahogany body and neck, rosewood board, nitro finish, and Phat Cats = warm rocking kick ass tone.

I'd like to swap it for a sweet tube amp -- preferably under 12 watts. Or, I'll sell it for $600 shipped.
