Need tech help with my acoustic

The top on my acoustic is swelled pretty bad, and needs to be dried out.

Anyone here have any tricks to accomplish this?

I imagine I don't want to dry it out too fast, as that will cause other problems.

you need a qualified tech. sounds like a brace has let go to me, if your swelling now before it gets humid for spring, you've got trouble IMO. what model guitar? (or do we have to go to the OC ;) )

Yeah I didn't want to mention any brands.

I brought it to a really good tech. (he was the head of Warranty repairs at Guild {hint} when they were in Westerly, RI) He suggested silica packs, but I have no idea where to get those.

The reason the top is so swelled now, is because when I sent it to the manufacturer ;) for repair of another issue, they said it was really dry and they put 2 dampits in it. That's why they said the action was high on the upper frets. So for the past couple of months I've been making sure I've had 2 moist dampits in the case. DOH! It's prolly gotten worse. The braces are all still ok.

This is not a great time of year to try and dry out a guitar. I was gonna put it in a closet with a dehumidifier, but I don't know if that would dry it too fast and screw it up.

Those silica packs are in almost every pair of shoes so go to a shoe store and see if they can hook you up with some. Just don't do anything that will dry it too quickly.

You might want to try a store that sells shipping supplies for the silica packs. Just a thought.

Oddly enough, last night my wife offered to buy a few dozen pairs of shoes, so she could donate the silica packs to te cause.

I found one at work today in a new laptop bag. I get a few of these a month, so maybe I'll just try to collect those.

Damn. I had a whole bunch of those, but I ate them. Screw that warning they print on the packets!
