I've spotted a nice green PRS Custom 24, with birds, but no other upgrades. From their serial number it looks to be a very late '92 (small heel). Any idea what those are selling for? I should make a move today...

-thanks PRS expers on the HFC!!

5way rotary, -what's the sweet switch?

The earlier PRSi had the sweet switch instead of a tone control - I wasn't smart enough to buy one way back when, but as I understand it, it was pretty much a two-position tone control.

A mini toggle in place of the tone control on PRSs of that era, so the "or rotary" part of my question was in error. Anyway, I think sweet switch PRSs are more desirable.

I'm assuming Emerald Green w/Black back? Do you know if it's a 10 top or not (that and birds were really the only upgrades to speak of then)?

If all original (case, HFS Treble/Vintage Bass pickups, Sweet Switch) and in nice condition, I'd say anywhere from $1,400-$2k. Add a 10 top and you can go into the upper $2k range.

The PRS market has cooled off significantly, but pre-95 models sell briskly, and anything pre-'90 seems to be a "name your price" thing.

Try www.birdsandmoons.com for more advice. Lotsa good and knowledgeable folks there who could help you out.

ebay seems to indicate $1500-1600 -ish, -sound about right? It's a figured top, how do you tell if it's a 10 top? Yes, Emerald Green with black back.

-I'd check that forum, but HFC guys always seem to be more knowledgable than any of the other guitar sites.

I'd jump on a '92 at that price if everything else was straight about it - especially with a 10 top. The 10 tops through the mid-90s are WAY better than even most Artist Grade tops coming off the line today. Look for a little "10" at the upper right back of the headstock (above the serial number). Some of the regular tops from back then were better than the 10 tops of today. Guess when you're pumping out 60-65 guitars a day, you're using up a lot of nice maple!

yeah, the pre-factory PRSi have a higher value which is usually justified...

having had a '93 and '02 CU24 (bought new), i found both very very nice guitars, but the '93 just had better feel and tone....and a better 10 top....even the birds were nicer...

i'm not putting down current PRSi....just that they're not as nice as their pre-factory guitars.....for the obvious reasons...

i'm seeing more like $1600 - $2k, depending on condition...

This sadly turned into a 'one that got away' story, my friend Aaron (the true pawn king) went to pick it up for me (he buys a lot of volume out of the pawn shops and gets better deals than I can get), it sold just an hour before he got there. It was going to be $1260 including tax... Phooey.

THAT would've been a SMOKIN' deal!
