ArnieZ Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 Couldn't interest you in a Savage Glas 30 could I ? ArnieZ
Turdus Posted February 14, 2008 Author Posted February 14, 2008 Arnie,I'd love to have that amp... but, it is a bit more than I'd like to spend right now. Thanks
JES1680 Posted February 15, 2008 Posted February 15, 2008 Bad timing. I had a 98 2x12, updated in 01. I believe it is still at Willies American Guitars in MPLS. I think they are asking $1200.00 but it's been there a while, they may move on the price. This is what it looks like. If you contact them, ask for John and tell him that Eric Smith told you about the amp.
Turdus Posted February 15, 2008 Author Posted February 15, 2008 Eric -- what kind of updates were done?
JES1680 Posted February 15, 2008 Posted February 15, 2008 I'm actually not sure what all the updates were. Inside the chassis it says updated in 01. It was done before I got it. A friend of mine let me borrow it for about a month and I decided I had to have one. I ordered a new one in 2004 and it didn't quite have the same tone that his did. We did some extensive A/B testing and I prefered his and he liked the newer one better. So we traded. Essentially the 98 had more sag and was more Marshally when pushed in to power tube distortion. The cut control on this one is actually a master volume I believe that was part of the updates. It is a tube rec model as well but still has the hard soft switch that the SS rec models had. It does affect the tone somewhat so it may switch the tube rec / ss in and out. The updates were done by Brian at Top Hat. It doesn't have the mid boost switch that the new ones have. If I remember correclty It has a V30 and a Webber Blue dog Ceramic speaker in it, it originally came with a Greenback instead of the V30.I've actually thought of buying this one back but I just have too many EL84 amps. Great 3d clean tones and wicked overdrive, think Marshall with a bit of chime on top but can also get very voxy depending on where the mid and treble are set. All in all a really great amp.
JES1680 Posted February 16, 2008 Posted February 16, 2008 Willies move on the price? yah, right.Nate has always treated me well, but then I've known him for many years.
