Brewmaster Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 For those who may be interested I have one of my heads out on Ebay. Please excuse the crappy pics. If I want to take this to the next level I will need some help with the pics. Calling BTMN!!!! I built and sold a bunch of these for some of the locals and need to sell off some of the extras so I can move on to other projects. This is a classic rock monster with some extra gain on tap on the MV channel. Lots of classic Marshall crunch and lead tones at more resonable volume levels, yet if you crank it you can play a small gig with it. The circuit is a very similar to what is found on 18 watt.com but I have made some tweaks. Anyone local to TB area can come by and check it out. I have a couple of combos as well. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...E:IT&ih=019

Brewmaster Posted July 13, 2008 Author Posted July 13, 2008 Very nice work! +1 on the slick logo. Thanks for the complements, I really appreciate it. It took a lot of time learning how to route wires, mount the components, find the right components, etc..... I have someone about an hour from me coming by to check it out tomorrow. He said he may need more than one since he is a studio owner.
BTMN Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Brother Brew with the Mighty Hamer Daytona Mite In Ben Chafin's Work room at Legends Guitars in Tampa... Brew looking like a proud Papa... The Baby in Green... The head and Combo sitting next to a sweet Chafin Targa...
Brewmaster Posted July 16, 2008 Author Posted July 16, 2008 Well the bad news is that the head didn't sell. The good news is that somebody came by to check out the head and bought a 2 x 12 combo instead. He wanted one G12 H30 and a 25 watt greenback both of which I happen to have. I loaded up the cab, he tried it out, creamed his drawers and left a happy man.

After trying that, i stopped looking at cabs for a *long* time... I haven't tried it in an open cab. Glad you were able to move something.
Brewmaster Posted July 18, 2008 Author Posted July 18, 2008 Cab was an open back. it worked well for him and is what he was looking for. For me I like the 2 x12 with two 25 watt greenbacks best.
Guest pirateflynn Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 Looks like a fine amp! I'm telling you, an 18 watter is a great way to get roaring Marshall tone at a popular performance volume. It's edgy cleans are gorgeous, too.
Brewmaster Posted July 18, 2008 Author Posted July 18, 2008 Dan, are these cathode biased? Yes sir! I was speaking with the local music store that is carrying my amps and we were talking about some possible changes to the design and of course this came up. It seems that a great many folks prefer it for ease of tubes changes. Guys like you and me are a different story. Most 18 watt Marshall based amp run about 345v to the plates. All of mine are right in that area. If you get tubes rated about 22ma you should be OK, you don't have to worry about running too hot or too cold. Effects loops and reverb also came up. At this point I'm keeping it real simple, an 18 watt trem and TMB are all I'll build for now. These sound killer with lots of Marshally crunch and lead tones. My circuit is very close to most of the well known builders. I can clean them up a bit for a touch more clean headroom.
