Armitage Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 I firmly believe everything makes a difference, no matter how small, but it also follows that some differences are so astronomically small... they are imperceptible. Like holding your guitar facing North vs East... I'm sure the Earth's huge magnetic field can make a difference, but know of no one who could claim to hear it... but don't laugh at Eric Johnson, new Alkaline batteries regularly have almost a 10% higher voltage then new Zinc Carbon batteries do, with completely different sag characteristics, and in a fuzz unit with a gain of over a thousand, it's silly to think it can't make a difference.I also believe my ears, and accept other people can hear things better (and worse) then I do, and may also be listening for different things altogether. I also know that better and worse is an opinion, but different, is a fact. I also believe if all things being equal, if I can't hear a difference, nobody else can blind A/B test it, they can't measure a difference, and theory even says there is zero difference... it's snake oil.
BCR Greg Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 I have replaced the volume pots in all of my humbucker guitars with Hamer pots, and have been quite pleased. Even my vintage Les Pauls(including the P-90 guitars) have improved with the pots. They are progressive from flat to 8, and give a mild bump from 8 to 10. This makes them less than perfect for tone pots, so I have removed the Hamer pots and replaced them with regular CTS pots.I notice a difference by ADDING Hamer pots to my non Hamers. I even swapped the harness back in on my favorite 59 Junior and could definitely tell that the Hamer pots were better.
