cmatthes Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 I see that AMS and MF are blowing out the flametop Explorer Pro guitars (flametop slightly downsized Explorer body) for $650 now. I guess they couldn't sell them at $1,050? The ones I've played are nowhere CLOSE to a Hamer, and are more of a rival to the Hamer imports, but it might be of interest to somebody else here looking for a cheap(er) gig-friendly axe.Picture
anotherfreak2 Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 wow!!!!!That downsized body just makes them look FUGLYit's like a 7/8th's sized uglyNot my cup of tea, but thanks for the PSA
data187 Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 can you post a link, i can;t seem to find it on the site...thanks!!!
marcnorth Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 I've been to both sites and not even found one. Comes up empty.I have one and it was better than the Hamer I used to own, I still have it and the Hamer is long gone. I like the smaller size body on the Gibson.I think it's just like any thing else, some are good and some are not.All Hamers are not better than all Gibsons. Hamer has Quality issues on some of their stuff too. The Bridge on my 2003 B4M is mounted slightly crooked. The last two Explorer Pro's I watched on ebay went for over $1300 so I would take one for $650 if I could find it.Did you see these on the internet or in the latest catalog?I came up empty on the net.
cmatthes Posted June 24, 2005 Author Posted June 24, 2005 This is the only link I could find today, and this is a different guitar than the ones I saw last night:AMS link
Kilroy is all about... Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 new gibson explorer feel like the hamer imports...in my unsolicted opinion. i prefer the early 80s gibson explorer and flying v, especially if the pups are original 'dirty fingers' moded. ' 83 silverburst...minty with dirty fingers. '84 purpleburst explorer with a SD zebra wax bridge; tim shaw pup in neck; there is no substitute for the point guitar..it must be a ham std!! kilroy posts.
cmatthes Posted June 24, 2005 Author Posted June 24, 2005 There were a number of them earlier this week at both MF and AMS websites, and I believe the AMS catalog with Zakk Wylde on the cover had a few listed in the closeout section. The flametop ones were the same price (?!?!).I also don't want to paint all guitars by ANY manufacturer with the same brush. I own and have owned great Gibsons and have played (but never owned) less than perfect Hamers. I have just not been knocked out by many of the recent Gibbys I've tried out. I am still looking for a nice FB though.
marcnorth Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 I'm sure they went fast at that price. Hell, it says Gibson on the headstock.I hear what your saying about the Gibsons and agree. Hamer makes a much better guitar. I have some good Gibsons but have always liked my Hamer's better.I just sold a mint 2000 FBV a few months ago, it was a good one but I had only played it 2 times after I went shopping and played every one I could find until one felt right.
