Sanding poly finish

Question

How much work is sanding the finish down on a fender neck, at least to where it is more of a satin-type feel? I really don't like the glossy feel of the typical fender neck finish, as I'm sure a lot of people don't, and if I pick one up I wonder if it is a relatively painless thing to sand some of that gloss finish off to make the neck smoother feeling...

It's pretty easy. Some folks will say 0000 steel wool but I think it feels better to start with some 1200-1500 grit wet, then do the 0000 and follow up with some wax.

I did the steel wool thing and it was really easy but Stikes probably forgotten more about this finishing stuff than I'll ever know so I'd take his advice.

Me too!

So how did it go?

Did you manage to fix it with that steel wool?

Tell me more about how to do it precisely, please!

Thanks!!

(My son got a lovely Strat with satin finish on both front and back of the neck.

So I bought myself a brand new strat 2009...

...JUST when they changed to glossy front of the neck!!)

I don't even remember starting this thread! I have no idea what I could've written it about honestly. Maybe I was thinking about buying a Tele or something but got my G&L instead. Huh. Sorry dude!
