Feynman Posted December 17, 2009 Posted December 17, 2009 I received my new clip-on tuner (thanks Sir Peers), and have spent enough time to formulate an opinion. My history with surface mount / clip-on tuners: Sabine AX2000 Sabine AX3000 Intellitouch PT-1 (Original) Intellitouch PT-1 (Modified wiring - warranty replacement for original) Intelli/Meisel Of my list, my longstanding favorite has been the Intellitouch, but my longstanding favorite has been dethroned. The Zoid has a bright, easy to read screen, and the change from red to green (out of tune to in-tune) is vivid and easily noticeable out of the corner of your eye. The clip is sturdy and confidence inspiring, and opens wide enough for my classical headstock (the Intellitouch range was a bit too limited to grab that one without trimming down the pad). The swivel allows for significant adjustment to the display angle (360 horizontal rotation and nearly 180 degree vertical). It's very fast - locks on to all notes in no time - no need for harmonic E tuning. It's small. It has a high quality feel. The onboard mic is very handy. I took the tuner off the guitar and clipped it to the top of my music stand, tuning with the same pleasant results. --- I realize this is just an inexpensive tuner, but I think they have done a nice job with this product. Sabine has earned the Feynman Seal of Approval! I know SpecialK's probably got one on the way by now, so we'll see if he supports my endorsement.
specialk Posted December 17, 2009 Posted December 17, 2009 Congrats! On Edit:I just ordered two from elduave. A real easy transaction, a real good price, and a nice dude to do business with! +1.
atquinn Posted December 17, 2009 Posted December 17, 2009 Cool. That whole red screen/green screen thing is genius.-Austin
specialk Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Feynman scores on his review of the Zoid!I got one today (thanks, Dave!) and it is worth it. It has a fast response, very easy to use, a definite cool form factor working for it. and while I'm not blessed with perfect pitch, it sounds very very accurate to me.Pluses: Large easy on the eyes screen to read. It even lets you know if you're in Mic or Clip mode, and the reference tuning pitch you're using. It feels well built, considering it's made in China from plastic. I think it could get knocked around a bit and keep on ticking. 2 year warranty, if that means anything. But for me, ease of use and accuracy of tuning makes this hands down the best tuner I've used and the price is icing on the cake. I just wish this had been available a long time ago. Would've saved much cussing on my part. Big thumbs up.
silentman Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Is it true bypass? Does the extra weight contibute to sustain?
Feynman Posted January 11, 2010 Author Posted January 11, 2010 I have decided this is my best gear purchase of 2009 (followed closely by the OM). I don't necessarily have very high standards though.
