Resume function on Blu-Ray?

I got a Pioneer BDP-51FD last year, and the picture is great. One really frustrating thing is that the resume function, where a normal DVD player would pick up where I left off a movie if I turn it off and come back later, rarely seems to work. I've got the latest firmware, so that doesn't seem to be an issue. Is this a problem with this model or Blu-Ray in general?

Thanks,

Mark

Many Blu-Ray disks do not allow that feature... while others do.

P.S. A lot of DVD players no longer have that function.

The HD DVD players universally did not resume. To my pleasant surprise the PS3 does resume well and consistently on Blu-ray, so I assumed that that was a universal Blu-ray feature. Apparently not. Maybe it's memory/processing-dependent, as the PS3 has a lot more of both than a typical Blu-ray machine.

"Certain Blu-ray Discs with BD-Java technology do not support the pre-stop mode. Pressing the STOP button during playback of such discs will completely stop the disc. Pressing the PLAY button once the disc is stopped will restart it from the very beginning."

Out of my manual.

My PS3 does a great job. Plus it will support 3D discs in the future. Sony has too much invested in the PS3 to not have it support every option available. It's great with regular DVD's too. Plus the games are fun. B)
