Sorry that should have read $80 a peice.
veatch Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 I'm no expert, but... $80 a piece is a fair price. I think list is $90 each, and list is the typical street price on Fralins from what i've seen. I think i've seen sets go for $160 before, but be sure to look at the shipping costs. If yer looking for pups, though, BCRGreg, RoyB, and a few others on the board sell pups and could probably hook you up. They've forgotten more about pups than i'll ever know... Hope that helps. Edited because i can.
Mike Lee Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 Just call Lindy and buy direct. If you describe the guitar, the current pickups, how it sounds, and what you like don't like, he can help you figure out exactly what variation to build for you.
jaberwock Posted February 28, 2010 Author Posted February 28, 2010 I tried buying some p 90's from Lollar pickups over the weekend, but it seems they only accept payment by American express, which I don't have, so I guess I'll have to buy my P90's from ebay, can anyone recommend any good dealers, my first preference would be the Lollars, but having listened to the sound clips posted by one of your members, the Fralins, and Lollars seemed to be very close tonally, but I'm sure either would be a substantial improvement over the stock SD hot P90's. Having said that I played my MIII through a friends Ceriatone Bluesbreaker 18 watt clone on Saturday night, and with the amp nearly dimed on the SD bridge pickup it was Viagra for the eardrums, certainly not subtle, but very addictive; took me back twenty years !!!

I like Lollar's humbuckers a bit better but as far as the P90 goes, Lindy has that down cold. Killer pickups.

I had a P90 Special that I bought from Poe back in 2000 IIRC and in that guitar the Fralin was a perfect choice. OTOH, I had an SG Classic that I tried both a standard set of Fralins and a Standard set of Lollars and I preferred the Lollars. The Lollars were more tonally balanced, not as dark in the neck position, more pleasing to the ear overall in the bridge position and the middle position was the best I have ever had in any guitar I have ever owned. Through my 18 watt prototype it is tonal nirvana.

Those Ceriatone amp kits are amazing value for money, the 18 watt Bluesbreaker Marshall clone, with a pine cabinet, and a Celestion alinco gold sounds absolutely, superb, and weighs only 39 pounds. jaberwock Posted March 1, 2010 Author Posted March 1, 2010 Viagra for the eardrums Best. Description. Ever. Talking of eardrums, I read that drummers have a learned reflex so that a fraction of a second before they thwack their crash cymbal, the tiny hairs in the inner ear lie down to protect themselves from the oncoming sonic assault; It doesn't help us poor b*****ds though standing on stage with ears at cymbal level, I always wear hearing protection on stage, but even so there is one drummer who is so loud I refuse to play with him.
veatch Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 Sorry I'm new to this forum, how would I contact BCRGreg, or RoyB, do they have an online oulet ?Greg (BCRGreg) is here: http://bcrmusic.com/contact.htmAsk for Greg, tell him you're from the HFC. Roy (RoyB) is here: http://www.rsguitarworks.net/cms2/As Mike said, you can get Fralins (or Lollars for that matter) direct, so you have a lot of options. Unless you find them used, though, the price won't vary much. So this is really a matter of service, not of price. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the options above. Greg and Roy have always treated me well.
