Motley Crue

I saw the crue last saturday in milwaukee and really enjoyed the show, especially not having to put up with some lame-o death johnny come lately metal opening band for an hour prior....

I loved the 2 part show theory.

I also saw them in '84 w/ ozzy bark at the moon / shout at the devil in '84 and 2 nights in a row at alpine valley duriong the theatre of pain tour with loudness.

vince obviously hasnt put much time into refinding his past glories, but boozing and whoring has a way of taking ones voice away...

as a whole the band was tight as always.....

its obvious to anyone that can "really" play guitar that mick mars is no rhoads, lynch, or dimartini,

but he has a style all his own and gives this band the sound they have...

for better or worse he has likely made more money being mediocre than most outstanding players or critics will hope to...

if you were to add a "gunslinger" player to motley crue , you wouldnt have motley crue...

no player in the crue is better than the sum of the whole.... thats what makes this band fun.....

I will agree tommys solo was an utter waste of our money and viewing time, especially when compared to a rotating drum kit during the theatre tour....

I have to say I was almost embarrassed for tommy,

it was like being in high school and having your drummer at a party do a cheesey drum solo with strobe lights that are triggered by the beat.

it was all parlor tricks and little drum prowess...

what I did like about this show was it was "motley crue being motley crue",

spitting, swearing, womanizing, scantily clothed women, midgets, harleys, and lots of fire.........is there something else one should expect from the crue....???

they were no better and no worse than any other show I have seen and thats a totally unbiased opinion.......

they are at the very least consistent, something I cant say for many bands that I have seen from the late '70's through today.

its obvious to me the boys were having a good time with each other and with the crowd.....if you see it any other way you really dont get the crue anyway..

I've seen Dimartini's name mentioned on this thread a couple of times.

I liked Ratt. To me they kinda jumped on the Glam Metal bandwagon when Motley Crue came out with their "Theatre Of Pain" album. MC went from "The Road Warrior" look, to the David Bowie androgonus deal with TOP. At that time no other band was quite as big as The Crue. Hence they influenced the music scene pretty significantly, fashion wise anyways.

Anyhoooo, I seen Ratt open for Billy Squier. I'd never seen Ratt perform live before, so I was excited to see them. Maybe it was me, but Dimartini must have had an EXTREMELY off night. He attempted to bust a solo out, and honestly, I was embarrassed for the poor guy. I thought somebody had snuck one of my SUPER CRAPPY home recordings of myself, on put it on the PA. I know the guy can rip, but he must have been toasted er sumthin

"Knock'em Dead Kid" is a rip-off of "Grinder"?! Please.

Fair enough.... The choruses don't sound anything alike. I should have clarified that I was talking about the opening guitar riff.

I agree that Mars is the right fit for Crue. I think he's come up with some good riffs over the years. "Girl, Girls, Girls" was a pretty good one. I'm sure there are others, but they're a vague memory at the moment.

I am grinning though, remembering the Shogun-type video for Too Young to Fall in Love. Decent tune, funny video.

Dave,

No malice was intended. Please forgive me if it came off that way. I had just played both songs on my computer and came to the conclusion, IMO, that the two didn't sound "that" similiar.

Hi LOTT - here's a 4-song live Ratt vid (175 MB) from the first tour -- Warren's "Morning After" solo break and the "Round and Round" outro are pretty cool. That's the Warren I remember.

You musta caught him on an off night. I saw the first 4 or 5 Ratt tours plus a few club dates in the past several years. Warren and the Blotz remain monstrous!

LOTT-- No offense taken, sir. Sorry if I came across otherwise.

I'm digging the nostalgia of some of the bands mentioned. DeMartini was a killer player, I thought. Him and George Lynch were some of the real strong ones from that era, I thought.

I just read that Killing Joke will be joining Motley Crue on the UK part of the tour. I saw KJ circa 1990. If I were the Crue, I'd be very concerned.
