Yo, Computer Audio Boffins!

Hey you computer recording types...

Does anybody know of a (preferably free) VST plug that will split a stereo .wav file into two mono ones?

I'm digging my Zoom H4N, but I use the two aux inputs in a way that would be lots better if they were two mono files, and the Zoom records those inputs as a stereo .wav.

Any leads?

If you're using the Cubase LE that came with it you should be able to do it with that. I don't know of any VST plug that does it.

In Cubase just export the track back to another track, file/export/audio-mixdown, and it should ask you if you want to export mono, stereo, or stereo split.

Make sure you set the track locators to the begging and end and solo the track you want to export, and turn off any master effects/EQ etc., that you don't want printed to the exported track.

If you use Audacity, you won't need any special plugins - just do this:

Click the name of the stereo track, between the X and the back down-arrow.

Select "Split Stereo Track"

This will give you two tracks, but each track will still be right/left. So, for each track:

Click the name of the stereo track, between the X and the back down-arrow.

Select "Mono"

Bingo! That ought to do it. I'm going to print this because I know I'll tear my hair out the next time I need to do it and can't remember the magic clicks :D

Dumb-a$$ Cubase....
